MOORE, McCONKEY, MOMMSEN, GUSTAFSON, KLEIN, BRANHAGEN, HEATON, ABDUL=SAMAD, BROWN=POWERS, JACOBY, MEYER, HOLT, HUNTER, HUSEMAN, LENSING, KELLEY, STUTSMAN, BERRY, FINKENAUER, STANERSON, BENNETT, MAXWELL, BEST, THEDE, NUNN, RUFF, DUNKEL, and GASSMAN 1 1 A Resolution recognizing and congratulating the Grand 1 2 View University Wrestling Team and program on its 1 3 outstanding athletic achievements. 1 4 WHEREAS, the 59th annual National Association of 1 5 Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Wrestling National 1 6 Championships were held March 4=5, 2016, in Topeka, 1 7 Kansas; and 1 8 WHEREAS, the Grand View University Wrestling Team 1 9 (the Vikings) claimed three national champions, four 1 10 runners=up, and 10 All=America honors en route to 210 1 11 points for the championship title; and 1 12 WHEREAS, the national champion titles and 1 13 All=America honors were won by Jacob Colon at 133 1 14 pounds, Michael Pixley at 184 pounds, and Dean 1 15 Broghammer at 285 pounds; and 1 16 WHEREAS, national runners=up and All=America honors 1 17 were bestowed on Grant Henderson at 157 pounds, Dallas 1 18 Houchins at 165 pounds, Lawton Benna at 174 pounds, and 1 19 Grant Harrill at 197 pounds; and 1 20 WHEREAS, additional All=America honors were earned 1 21 by Godwin Cutler at 133 pounds, Walker Marshall at 141 1 22 pounds, and Tanner Werner at 157 pounds; and 1 23 WHEREAS, the championship total of 210 points 2 1 eclipsed the previous scoring record of 193 points; and 2 2 WHEREAS, the Vikings are the first team in NAIA 2 3 history to win five consecutive national titles and 2 4 only the fifth program in collegiate wrestling history 2 5 to win five or more consecutive championships; and 2 6 WHEREAS, Head Coach Nick Mitchell has been voted 2 7 NAIA 2016 National Wrestling Coach of the Year, the 2 8 fourth such honor during his eight=year career at Grand 2 9 View University; and 2 10 WHEREAS, the Vikings won the divisional title at the 2 11 National Wrestling Coaches Association Multi=Divisional 2 12 National Duals conducted in honor of Cliff Keen, held 2 13 on January 9, 2016, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and were 2 14 undefeated in dual action; and 2 15 WHEREAS, the Vikings won the first=ever Heart of 2 16 America Conference Dual Championships, held on January 2 17 30, 2016, in Lamoni, Iowa, at which Michael Pixley was 2 18 named the Heart Newcomer of the Year and Head Coach 2 19 Mitchell was named the Heart Coach of the Year; and 2 20 WHEREAS, the Vikings won their sixth consecutive 2 21 Central National Qualifying Tournament team title, held 2 22 on February 20, 2016, in Marshall, Missouri, at which 2 23 Tanner Werner was named the tournament's outstanding 2 24 wrestler and Head Coach Mitchell was named Coach of the 2 25 Year for the sixth time in his career at Grand View 2 26 University; NOW THEREFORE, 2 27 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 2 28 That the House of Representatives recognizes and 2 29 congratulates the Grand View University Wrestling Team 2 30 and program on its outstanding achievements; and 3 1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this 3 2 resolution be sent to Grand View University Wrestling 3 3 Team Head Coach Nick Mitchell and Grand View University 3 4 President Kent Henning.
