  1  1    Section 1.  Section 331.904, subsection 1, paragraph a, Code
  1  2 2017, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    a.  The annual base salary of the first and second deputy
  1  4 officer of the office of auditor, treasurer, and recorder, the
  1  5 deputy in charge of elections administration, the deputy in
  1  6 charge of the motor vehicle registration and title division,
  1  7 and the deputy in charge of driver's license issuance shall
  1  8 each be an amount not to exceed eighty=five percent of the
  1  9 annual salary of the deputy's principal officer. In offices
  1 10 where more than two deputies are required, the annual base
  1 11 salary of each additional deputy shall be an amount not to
  1 12 exceed eighty percent of the principal officer's salary. The
  1 13 amount of the annual base salary of each deputy shall be
  1 14 certified by the principal officer to the board and, if a
  1 15 deputy's annual base salary does not exceed the limitations
  1 16 specified in this subsection, the board shall certify the
  1 17 annual base salary to the auditor. The board shall not certify
  1 18 a deputy's annual base salary which exceeds the limitations of
  1 19 this subsection.
  1 20                           EXPLANATION
  1 21 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 22 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 23    This bill provides that the annual salary of a county's
  1 24 deputy auditor in charge of elections administration shall not
  1 25 exceed 85 percent of the annual salary of the county auditor.
