Section 261.9, subsection 1, paragraph c, Code 1 2 2017, is amended to read as follows: 1 3 c. Is a specialized college that is accredited by the higher 1 4 learning commission, and which offers health professional 1 5 programs that are affiliated with health care systems located 1 6 in Iowa. Such an institution shall give priority to applicants 1 7 for admission who are residents of Iowa. Notice that priority 1 8 for admission is given to Iowa residents shall be published on 1 9 the institution's application for admission form. 1 10 Sec. 2. Section 262.9, subsection 3, Code 2017, is amended 1 11 to read as follows: 1 12 3. Make rules for admission to and for the government of 1 13 said institutions, not inconsistent with law. The rules shall 1 14 require institutions of higher learning governed by the board 1 15 to give priority to residents of Iowa who apply for admission 1 16 to a college of medicine or to a medical program offered by 1 17 such institutions. Notice that priority for admission is 1 18 given to Iowa residents shall be published on the application 1 19 for admission form used by the institutions for a college of 1 20 medicine or for a medical program offered by the institution. 1 21 EXPLANATION 1 22 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 23 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 24 This bill provides that an accredited private institution 1 25 that is a specialized college offering health professional 1 26 programs and a regents university that has a college of 1 27 medicine or which offers medical programs must give priority 1 28 for admission to applicants who are residents of Iowa. The 1 29 institutions must publish notice of the priority given to Iowa 1 30 residents on application for admission forms used for admission 1 31 to colleges of medicine, health profession programs, and 1 32 medical programs.
