  1 1 Section 1. Section 321.1, Code 2017, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 76A. "Sports car" means a motor vehicle
1 4 capable of exceeding one hundred thirty miles per hour and
1 5 originally manufactured with one door on the driver's side of
1 6 the vehicle, one door on the passenger's side of the vehicle,
1 7 and a front bumper that sits eight inches from the ground or
  1 8 less.
  1 9 Sec. 2. Section 321.37, subsection 2, Code 2017, is amended
1 10 to read as follows:
  1 11 2. Registration plates issued for a A motor vehicle
1 12 which is model year 1948 or older, and is reconstructed or
1 13 specially constructed vehicles built to resemble a model year

1 15 an antique vehicle under section 321.115, other than a truck
1 16 registered for more than five tons, autocycle, motorcycle, or

1 18 of the vehicle if the other registration plate issued to the
1 19 vehicle is carried in the vehicle at all times when the vehicle
1 20 is operated on a public highway.
  1 21 EXPLANATION
1 22 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
1 23 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
1 24 Current law permits motor vehicles which are model year
1 25 1948 or older, or reconstructed or specially constructed to

1 31 is operated on a public highway.
1 32 This bill applies that provision to sports cars and antique
1 33 vehicles. The bill defines "sports car" to mean a vehicle
1 34 capable of exceeding 130 miles per hour and originally
1 35 manufactured with one door on the driver's side of the vehicle,
2 1 one door on the passenger's side of the vehicle, and a front
