Section 47.8, subsection 4, Code 2016, is amended 1 2 to read as follows: 1 3 4. The registration commission shall annually adopt a set 1 4 of standard charges to be made for the services the registrar 1 5 is required to offer to the several commissioners, and for 1 6 furnishing of voter registration records which are requested by 1 7 persons other than the registrar, the state commissioner, or 1 8 any commissioner, pursuant to section 48A.38. These charges 1 9 shall be sufficient to reimburse thestateregistrar for the 1 10 actual cost of furnishing such services or information, and 1 11 shall bespecified by unit wherever possibleretained by the 1 12 registrar. The standard charges shall be adopted by the 1 13 commission by January 15 of each calendar year. 1 14 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE UPON ENACTMENT. This Act, being deemed of 1 15 immediate importance, takes effect upon enactment. 1 16 EXPLANATION 1 17 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 18 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 19 This bill permits the state registrar of voters (secretary 1 20 of state) to retain fees charged by the registrar for providing 1 21 voter registration=related services and records. 1 22 Under current law, the state voter registration commission 1 23 adopts a set of standard charges that the state registrar is 1 24 required to charge to reimburse the state for providing voter 1 25 registration services to county commissioners of elections and 1 26 for furnishing voter registration records to persons who are 1 27 not election officials. The bill requires that the registrar 1 28 retain these charges. 1 29 The bill takes effect upon enactment. LSB 5271HV (1) 86 aw/sc
