Section 256.9, Code 2018, is amended by adding 1 2 the following new subsection: 1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 60. No later than July 1, 2019, in 1 4 consultation with the department of public health, develop and 1 5 make available to all schools guidelines for the management of 1 6 students with life=threatening food allergies. The guidelines 1 7 shall include but not be limited to all of the following: 1 8 a. Education and training for school personnel on the 1 9 management of students with life=threatening food allergies, 1 10 including training relating to the administration of an 1 11 epinephrine auto=injector. 1 12 b. Procedures for responding to life=threatening allergic 1 13 reactions. 1 14 c. A process for the development of individualized health 1 15 care and allergy action plans for every student with a known 1 16 life=threatening food allergy. 1 17 d. Protocols to prevent exposure to life=threatening 1 18 allergens. 1 19 EXPLANATION 1 20 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 21 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 22 This bill requires the department of education, in 1 23 consultation with the department of public health, to develop 1 24 and make available to all schools guidelines for the management 1 25 of students with life=threatening food allergies no later than 1 26 July 1, 2019.
