1.
Section
22.7,
Code
2022,
is
amended
by
adding
the

following
new
subsection:

Juror
questionnaires
provided
by
the

judicial
branch
and
completed
for
the
purpose
of
jury
service.

Section
607A.47,
Code
2022,
is
amended
to
read
as

follows:

Juror
questionnaire.

The
court
may,
on
its
own
motion,
or
upon
the
motion
of
a
8
party
to
the
case
or
upon
the
request
of
a
juror,
order
the
9
sealing
or
partial
sealing
of
a
completed
juror
questionnaire,
10
if
the
court
finds
that
it
is
necessary
to
protect
the
safety
11
or
privacy
of
a
juror
or
a
family
member
of
a
juror
The
clerk
12
shall
redact
personally
identifiable
information
in
a
juror
13
questionnaire
prior
to
providing
the
juror
questionnaire
to
a
14
member
of
the
public
upon
a
public
records
request,
including
15
the
juror’s
name,
spouse’s
name,
home
street
address,
employer,
16
employer
address,
and
phone
number,
as
well
as
the
names
of
any
17
other
individuals
in
the
questionnaire
.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
20
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
confidential
records
protected
by
Code
22
chapter
22
(public
records)
and
juror
questionnaires.
Under
23
current
law,
a
completed
juror
questionnaire
is
not
protected
24
unless
the
court
orders
the
sealing
or
partial
sealing
of
a
25
completed
juror
questionnaire.
The
bill
makes
a
completed
26
juror
questionnaire
a
confidential
record
and
it
can
only
be
27
released
by
an
order
from
the
court,
a
lawful
custodian
of
the
28
records,
or
by
another
person
duly
authorized
to
release
such
29
information.
The
bill
provides
any
confidential
information
30
contained
within
the
juror
questionnaire
shall
be
redacted
by
31
the
clerk
prior
to
being
released
to
the
public
when
a
public
32
record
request
has
been
received.
