Section 91A.5A, subsection 1, Code 2018, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 1. An employer shall provide each employee who isaan 1 4 eligible veteran, as defined in section 35.1,with holiday 1 5 time off for Veterans Day, November 11, if the employee would 1 6 otherwise be required to work on that day, as provided in this 1 7 section. For purposes of this section, "eligible veteran" 1 8 means a veteran, as defined in section 35.1, and includes a 1 9 former member of the reserve forces of the United States or 1 10 Iowa national guard who has served at least four years in the 1 11 reserve forces or national guard and who was discharged under 1 12 honorable conditions. 1 13 EXPLANATION 1 14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 15 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 16 This bill provides that a former member of the reserve forces 1 17 of the United States or the Iowa national guard who has served 1 18 at least four years and who was discharged under honorable 1 19 conditions is eligible to take holiday time off for Veterans 1 20 Day as provided in Code section 91A.5A.
