  1  1    Section 1.  Section 155A.44, subsection 4, paragraph a, Code
  1  2 2018, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    a.  Vaccination and immunization of patients ages six
  1  4 years through seventeen years shall be limited to vaccines or
  1  5 immunizations for influenza, meningococcal disease, and other
  1  6 emergency immunizations or vaccines in response to a public
  1  7 health emergency.
  1  8                           EXPLANATION
  1  9 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 10 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 11    This bill authorizes a licensed pharmacist, in accordance
  1 12 with rules adopted by the board of pharmacy, to administer, in
  1 13 addition to the vaccines or immunizations for influenza and
  1 14 other emergency immunizations or vaccines in response to a
  1 15 public health emergency, the immunization against meningococcal
  1 16 disease to patients ages six through seventeen.  By reference
  1 17 under the bill, patients ages 18 years and older may also
  1 18 receive these same vaccinations or immunizations administered
  1 19 by a licensed pharmacist.  Code section 139A.8, immunization of
  1 20 children, prohibits a person from being enrolled in school in
  1 21 the seventh grade or twelfth grade in Iowa without evidence of
  1 22 adequate immunization against meningococcal disease.
