  1  1    Section 1.  Section 285.1, subsection 1, paragraph a, Code
  1  2 2018, is amended by adding the following new subparagraph:
  1  3    NEW SUBPARAGRAPH.  (5)  Notwithstanding subparagraph
  1  4 (1), an elementary pupil provided child care in a child care
  1  5 home in accordance with section 237A.3 shall be entitled to
  1  6 transportation to or from the child care home by the school
  1  7 district of the school designated for attendance if the child
  1  8 care home is more than two miles from the school designated
  1  9 for attendance, and even if the home in which the pupil lives
  1 10 is located two miles or less from the school designated for
  1 11 attendance.  For each semester of the  school year in which the
  1 12 child care home is used for purposes of subsection 9 rather
  1 13 than the residence of the pupil, the pupil's parent or guardian
  1 14 shall submit in writing to the school designated for attendance
  1 15 the address of the child care home designated by the parent or
  1 16 guardian for transportation under this subparagraph.
  1 17                           EXPLANATION
  1 18 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 19 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 20    This bill makes an elementary pupil eligible for school
  1 21 transportation to or from the child care home providing child
  1 22 care to the pupil if the child care home is within school
  1 23 boundaries but more than two miles from the school designated
  1 24 for attendance. The parent or guardian must submit to the
  1 25 school the address of the child care home to which the pupil is
  1 26 to be transported by the school district for each semester of
  1 27 the school year.
