  1  1    Section 1.  Section 321.318, Code 2015, is amended to read
  1  2 as follows:
  1  3    321.318  Method of giving hand and arm signals.
  1  4    1.  All signals herein required which may be given by hand
  1  5 and arm shall when so given be given from the left side of the
  1  6 vehicle and the following manner and interpretation thereof is
  1  7 suggested:
  1  8    1.  a.  Left turn == Hand and arm extended horizontally.
  1  9    2.  b.  Right turn == Hand and arm extended upward.
  1 10    3.  c.  Stop or decrease of speed == Hand and arm extended
  1 11 downward.
  1 12    2.  Notwithstanding subsection 1, a person operating a
  1 13 bicycle may give a right=turn signal by extending the right
  1 14 hand and arm horizontally and to the right side of the bicycle.
  1 15                           EXPLANATION
  1 16 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 17 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 18    Current law provides that directional signals from a motor
  1 19 vehicle may be given either by hand and arm or by mechanical
  1 20 or electrical device. Directional signals given by hand and
  1 21 arm must be given from the left side of the vehicle. This
  1 22 law is applicable to persons operating bicycles through Code
  1 23 section 321.234. For a violation of Code section 321.318, the
  1 24 scheduled fine is $35.
  1 25    The bill provides that a person operating a bicycle may
  1 26 give a right=turn signal by extending the right hand and arm
  1 27 horizontally from the right side of the bicycle.
