NEWBORN METABOLIC SCREENING == INCLUSION OF 1 2 LYSOSOMAL STORAGE DISORDERS. Pursuant to section 136A.8, 1 3 the center for congenital and inherited disorders, with the 1 4 assistance of the department of public health, shall adopt 1 5 rules to require the screening of newborns for the following 1 6 lysosomal storage disorders as part of the newborn metabolic 1 7 screening pursuant to section 136A.5: 1 8 1. Globoid cell leukodystrophy (Krabbe). 1 9 2. Fabry. 1 10 3. Pompe. 1 11 4. Niemann=Pick. 1 12 5. Gaucher. 1 13 6. Hurler syndrome (MPS I). 1 14 EXPLANATION 1 15 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 16 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 17 This bill directs the center for congenital and inherited 1 18 disorders with the assistance of the department of public 1 19 health to adopt rules to require the screening of newborns 1 20 for the six specified lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs) as 1 21 part of the newborn metabolic screening.
