WHEREAS,
the
United
Kingdom
separated
from
the

European
Union
on
January
31,
2020,
thus
gaining
the
5
right
to
determine
its
own
trade
policies;
and
6
WHEREAS,
the
United
States
and
the
United
Kingdom
7
have
strong
historic,
cultural,
and
economic
bonds;
and
8
WHEREAS,
the
United
States
and
the
United
Kingdom
9
have
an
important
trade
relationship,
with
United
10
States
exports
of
goods
and
services
to
the
United
11
Kingdom
in
2018
totaling
$146.9
billion,
and
imports
12
of
goods
and
services
from
the
United
Kingdom
totaling
13
$122.9
billion;
and
14
WHEREAS,
it
is
in
the
interests
of
both
nations
to
15
strengthen
the
special
relationship
that
binds
our
two
16
democracies;
NOW
THEREFORE,

BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
THE
18
SENATE
CONCURRING,
That
the
General
Assembly
of
the
19
State
of
Iowa
calls
upon
the
President
of
the
United
20
States
to
press
forward
expeditiously
with
recently
21
launched
negotiations
with
the
United
Kingdom
with
the
22
objective
of
establishing
a
free-trade
agreement;
and
23
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
upon
passage
of
this
24
resolution,
the
Secretary
of
the
Senate
shall
transmit
25
copies
of
this
resolution
to
the
President
of
the
26
