RESOLUTION
Honoring
and celebrating the 75th birthday of Alonzo K. "Lonnie" Alston; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Alonzo K. "Lonnie" Alston was born on February 18, 1937, a beloved son to Willie
Belle and William Alston; and
WHEREAS,
he received a bachelor's degree from Savannah State College in 1967, a Master's
in Business Administration from Atlanta University in 1971, and attended John
Marshall Law School from 1971 to 1972; and
WHEREAS,
he was the deputy director of the Coastal Area Planning and Development
Commission from 1966 to 1968 and the finance director of Atlanta University
Multi-Purpose Training Center from 1968 to 1971; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Alston founded AMTEI Transportation Co. in 1972; and
WHEREAS,
he was in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and is a Silver Life member of NAACP;
and
WHEREAS,
a man with a passion for politics, Mr. Alston has worked with Senator Lester
Jackson since 2004, partnered to run the Chatham County State Democratic Party
Campaign in 2010, and has run for state representative and City Council;
and
WHEREAS,
he is the proud father of five remarkable children and an adored grandfather of
12 wonderful grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Alston has made a lasting impact on the State of Georgia, and it is
abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately
recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize Alonzo K. "Lonnie" Alston for his political efforts and contributions, commend him on the occasion of his 75th birthday, and wish him many more years of happiness.
