A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Major General Peter J. Boylan; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, after graduating high school, Major General Peter J. Boylan enlisted in the United States Army and shortly thereafter matriculated at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York; and

WHEREAS, after graduating in 1961 he was commissioned a second lieutenant of infantry and spent more than 30 years in a variety of assignments, including two tours in the Republic of South Vietnam and participating in the invasion of Grenada with the 82nd Airborne Division; and

WHEREAS, he was an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the United States Military Academy and later served as Commandant of Cadets; and

WHEREAS, General Boylan served with the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon and later as Deputy to the Inspector General of the Army; and

WHEREAS, he retired from the military in February of 1991 and was appointed the 20th President of Georgia Military College the following August; and

WHEREAS, his academic degrees include a Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy in 1961, Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering in 1969 and Computer Information and Control Engineering in 1970 from the University of Michigan, and a Doctorate of Laws in 2000 from Flagler College; and

WHEREAS, active in his community, General Boylan is a member of Phi Kappa Phi academic honor fraternity, served on the Committee for the Selection of White House Fellows, and was appointed to the board of directors for the Department of Juvenile Justice by the Governor; and
WHEREAS, he has received numerous honors, including the Distinguished Service Medal, the Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Ranger Tab, and the Master Parachutist Badge; and

WHEREAS, he is united in love and marriage to Kathleen, and they are blessed with five remarkable children and 14 wonderful grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, the honorable deeds and selfless actions of this distinguished Georgian serve as a shining example, and the State of Georgia is honored and blessed to have General Boylan as a citizen.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Major General Peter J. Boylan for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of his country.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Major General Peter J. Boylan.
