A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending the Super Sabre Society; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Super Sabre Society is a group of over 1,300 United States Air Force pilots who have flown the USAF F-100 fighter-bomber aircraft; and

WHEREAS, nicknamed the "Hun," the F-100 was manufactured by North American Aviation from 1951 to 1955 and was the first United States fighter plane to achieve and sustain supersonic speed in straight and level flight; and

WHEREAS, only 2,700 F-100s were produced, and they each stood ready at nuclear alert for several years in Europe and served as the first fighter planes of the Vietnam War; and

WHEREAS, the F-100 flew the bulk of the missions in South Vietnam from 1965 to 1971; and

WHEREAS, in 1971, after several years of active service duty, the F-100 was delivered to Air National Guard units across this nation and completed its last official Air National Guard Operational flight on November, 1979; and

WHEREAS, members of the Super Sabre Society reside in Georgia as far south as Valdosta and as far north as Clarkesville; and

WHEREAS, Super Sabres served as guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty, with members flying in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam; and

WHEREAS, members of the Super Sabre Society include George E. "Bud" Day, who has been recognized with a Medal of Honor and served for five and a half years as a prisoner of war in Hanoi; Lt. Col. Jack Doub, who has been recognized by the United States Air Force for the most combat sorties in the SEA war, with 572; and Major General Bruce W. "Cuz" MacLane, retired Wing Commander at Warner Robbins; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Super Sabre Society embody the spirit of service, willing to find meaning in something greater than themselves, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of these remarkable and distinguished Americans be recognized appropriately.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service of the Super Sabre Society and recognize their unique place in America's history.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the members of the Super Sabre Society.
