RESOLUTION
Recognizing
February 3, 2011, as North Georgia College and State University Day at the state
capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
North Georgia College and State University was founded in 1873, and stands as
this state's second oldest public institution of higher education;
and
WHEREAS,
designated by state legislation as the Military College of Georgia, North
Georgia College and State University is also recognized by the University System
of Georgia Board of Regents as a state leadership institution for civilian and
military students; and
WHEREAS,
located in Dahlonega, Georgia, North Georgia College and State University is one
of only six senior military colleges in the nation, standing proudly with the
ranks of the Citadel, Norwich University, Texas A&M University, Virginia
Military Institute, and Virginia Tech; and
WHEREAS,
North Georgia College and State University is achieving national distinction in
four dimensions of leadership: teaching and learning innovation, educating
engaged citizens, contributing to regional development, and creating an
organizational culture that is a living reflection of the university's mission
and values; and
WHEREAS,
the university's Corps of Cadets has a long tradition of excellence, and in
2010, North Georgia College and State University earned a prestigious MacArthur
Award; and
WHEREAS,
on February 3, 2011, students, alumni, and faculty of North Georgia College and
State University will gather at the capitol to celebrate this university's rich
history and tradition.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
and observe February 3, 2011, as North Georgia College and State University Day
at the state capitol.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to North Georgia College and
State University.
