A RESOLUTION


Honoring North Georgia College and State University and its President Dr. Bonita C. Jacobs and recognizing February 16, 2012, as North Georgia College and State University Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, North Georgia College and State University, a member of the University System of Georgia, is the state's second oldest public university and is designated as a state leadership institution and as The Military College of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Bonita C. Jacobs took office as the 17th president of North Georgia College and State University on July 1, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Jacobs is the first female president of North Georgia College and State University and only the second woman to lead one of the nation's six senior military colleges; and

WHEREAS, prior to becoming president of North Georgia College and State University, Dr. Jacobs served as executive director of the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students, vice president for student development, and as professor in counseling and higher education at the University of Texas; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Jacobs earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University, and she earned her doctorate in educational administration from Texas A&M University; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Jacobs brings an extensive background in student development and student access to North Georgia College and State University's student-focused college experience that equips students with a rigorous liberal arts education and superior leadership experiences to help them become successful civic, professional, and military leaders who are engaged in serving their community; and
WHEREAS, she currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Council on Economic Education; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her contributions to the students in this state, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the success of North Georgia College and State University and President Dr. Bonita C. Jacobs and recognize February 16, 2012, as North Georgia College and State University Day at the state capitol.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to President Dr. Bonita C. Jacobs.
