RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the 2nd Bravo 121st Battalion of the 48th Brigade of the Georgia
Army National Guard; and for other purpose.
WHEREAS,
our nation's security continues to depend on patriotic men and women who put
their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm's way to
protect the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and
WHEREAS,
the 2nd Bravo 121st Battalion of the 48th Brigade of the Georgia Army National
Guard in Newnan, Georgia, have long been recognized by the citizens of this
nation for the vital role that they have played in leadership and their deep
personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of the United States;
and
WHEREAS,
these military heroes have diligently and conscientiously undergone intensive
and rigorous training in order to serve their country with honor and distinction
during the global war on terror; and
WHEREAS,
they have selflessly devoted their time and energy to full-time training since
February 2, 2009, attending training at Fort Polk in Louisiana and Fort Gordon
and Fort Stewart in Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
on April 13, 2009, the unit will journey to Camp Shelby in Mississippi and is
scheduled for deployment to Afghanistan in May, 2009, to serve as guardians of
this nation's freedom and liberty; and
WHEREAS,
this will be this brave and courageous unit's second tour, with their first
mission in Iraq in 2005 and 2006; and
WHEREAS,
these hometown heroes are led by their unit commander, First Lieutenant Michael
Persley; and
WHEREAS, their selfless and heroic actions stand as a shining tribute to the strength of human spirit and willpower, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of these remarkable and distinguished Americans be recognized appropriately.

NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the 2nd Bravo 121st Battalion of the 48th Brigade of the Georgia Army National
Guard for their strength, leadership, and courage in their willingness to find
meaning in something greater than themselves; wish them Godspeed upon the
occasion of their deployment to Afghanistan; and extend their most profound and
sincere appreciation for them and all members of the United States military who
stand ever ready to lay the ultimate sacrifice upon the altar of
freedom.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the 2nd Bravo 121st
Battalion of the 48th Brigade of the Georgia Army National Guard.
