A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Le Kevin Smith; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Le Kevin Smith has established himself as a stellar football player and has a promising career ahead of him in the National Football League; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Smith graduated from Stratford Academy in 2001, where his aggressive and skilled performances on the football field earned him the titles of Macon City Player of the Year, Region 1-AAA Player of the Year, and the Macon Touchdown Club's Georgia Player of the Year; and

WHEREAS, his football abilities earned him a spot on the First Team All-State, the All-Middle Georgia First Team, First Team All-USA Nose Tackle from USA Today, and the Bigger, Faster, Stronger's First Team All-American; and

WHEREAS, also an accomplished high school track star, Mr. Smith was the Middle Georgia Track Athlete of the Year, was a four-time discus state champion and record holder, and was a two-time shot put state champion and state record holder; and

WHEREAS, upon his graduation from high school, Mr. Smith attended the University of Nebraska on a football scholarship and recorded 36 tackles behind the line of scrimmage for the Huskies, seventh best in the school's history; and

WHEREAS, highlights of Mr. Smith's collegiate football career include a 14 yard interception return, 172 recorded career tackles, 20 quarterback pressures in four years, was recognized with an honorable mention by the Associated Press All-Big 12 Conference, and was named to the 2003 Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll; and

WHEREAS, after earning a bachelor's degree in construction management, Mr. Smith was drafted in the sixth round by the New England Patriots, recording a sack in Super Bowl XLII in 2008; and

WHEREAS, the outstanding achievements and dedication displayed by Mr. Smith serve as an example to all Georgians, and his many accomplishments are worthy of recognition by this body.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize Mr. Le Kevin Smith for his amazing football career, commend him on reaching his dream of playing in the NFL, and congratulate him on his Super Bowl appearance.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Le Kevin Smith.
