A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Dr. Catherine Aust, outstanding Georgia citizen and public servant; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Catherine Aust has long been recognized by the citizens of the State of Georgia for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to Clayton State University; and

WHEREAS, she received her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia in 1968 and she earned her Doctorate of Philosophy in Mathematics from Emory University in 1973; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Aust has served Clayton State University for 34 years in various capacities, including as the founding Dean of the College of Information and Mathematical Sciences in 2003; and

WHEREAS, in honor of her many contributions to the university, the college faculty unanimously voted to name a new student award after her, and the Catherine Cowan Aust Award will be given annually to a college of information and mathematical sciences major showing the best all-around performance in the department; and

WHEREAS, her commitment to education and the citizens of Georgia is further demonstrated by her diligent service on over 20 committees and task forces; and

WHEREAS, her significant leadership talents, her remarkable patience and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates as demonstrated by her receipt of numerous recognitions and awards, including being named in the 10th edition of Who's Who of American Women, the 13th edition of American Men and Women in Science, and the 9th edition of Who's Who Among America's Teachers; and
WHEREAS, she is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Dr. Catherine Aust for her many years of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to Clayton State University and extend to her their most sincere best wishes for continued success, health, and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Catherine Aust.
