RESOLUTION
Congratulating
the Wheeler High School boys basketball team on winning the 2009 Class AAAAA
State Championship; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
through perseverance and iron determination, the Wheeler High School boys
basketball team earned the top ranking in the state with their 73-53 win over
Milton High School at the Arena at Gwinnett Center; and
WHEREAS,
the title-earning win by the Wildcats completed their impressive 25-7 season and
clinched a fourth state championship for Wheeler High School boys basketball in
the past decade; and
WHEREAS,
the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding
athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and
spirit of each member of the team; their superb offensive and defensive talents;
and the astute direction of Head Coach Doug Lipscomb; and
WHEREAS,
the 2009 team of champions consisted of Emanuel Hill, Derrick Evans, Joab
Jerome, Karl Cochran, Phil Taylor, Tahj Tate, Jamal Tiller, Karriem Simmons, Ari
Stewart, Richard Howell, Tevin Reeves, David Lucas, Derek Frye, and Charles
Mitchell; and
WHEREAS,
as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by
performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition,
it is abundantly proper to call them champions.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
congratulate the Wheeler High School boys basketball team for winning the 2009
Class AAAAA State Championship and extend their sincerest best wishes for future
success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the coaches and players of
the Wheeler High School boys basketball team.
