A RESOLUTION


Congratulating Mrs. Anna Dillard on the grand occasion of her 100th birthday; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on November 11, 1911, Anna Lewis Dillard was born the first child and only daughter to two loving parents, George and Thannie Marie Lewis, in Herndon, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, at the age of eight, along with three brothers, she left Georgia and moved with their mother to Rahway, New Jersey, where she attended school; and

WHEREAS, she left school after the eighth grade and worked as a maid and cook at Rahway Hospital for a number of years to help send her younger brother to college; and

WHEREAS, at the age of 27, she married the late Gus Curtis of Rahway, New Jersey, and in 1942 she became employed at M&T Chemicals of Rahway, New Jersey, as a chemical glass washer and technician until she retired in 1976 at the age of 65; and

WHEREAS, Anna gave birth to four daughters who she encouraged to finish school and live moral godly lives, she is known as a very giving person who loves people and gets along with everyone; and

WHEREAS, in 1959, she remarried the late Ernest Dillard, and after retirement she engaged in various part-time jobs, such as caring for the elderly, cooking for a day care, and being a child care provider; and

WHEREAS, Anna moved back to Georgia in 1991 and resided in Decatur with her youngest daughter and family. She immediately became involved with the Dekalb Senior Center on Candler Road in Decatur, where she presided as site president for a term; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Dillard currently resides with her daughter and son-in-law in Conyers and is an active participant at the Olivia Haydel Senior Center in Conyers. She is a member of New Covenant Christian Ministries in Lithonia; and

WHEREAS, Georgia is honored to have this distinguished centenarian as one of its citizens, and she is wished many more years of health and happiness.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join together to congratulate Mrs. Anna Dillard and extend their best wishes on the happy event of her 100th birthday.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Anna Dillard.
