RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Dr. Donald Eugene DeLong; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. Donald Eugene DeLong was born on January 31, 1958, in Gainesville, Georgia,
and attended Baldwin High School in Milledgeville; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. DeLong served a three-year tour with the United States Air Force as a medic
and dedicated six more years to serving his country with the United States Navy,
serving as a nuclear reactor operator, attending naval nuclear power school and
naval research laboratory prototype training, and serving on the ballistic
missile submarine USS
Francis Scott
Key; and
WHEREAS,
after his many years of selfless sacrifice guarding the liberty of the nation,
Dr. DeLong's thirst for knowledge and study led him to Georgia State University,
where he earned a degree in engineering, and then to the University of Georgia,
where he attended the school's College of Veterinary Medicine; and
WHEREAS,
a wonderful year for Dr. DeLong, 1994 marked his graduation from the University
of Georgia and his marriage to classmate and love of his life, Dr. Dawn Drewry
DeLong; and the DeLong's have gone on to be blessed with two beautiful children,
Bryce and Brynn, and anxiously await the arrival of their third;
and
WHEREAS,
after practicing veterinary medicine for a year in Florida, Dr. DeLong returned
home to Georgia and opened the Avalon Animal Hospital, and a decade later, he
expanded his practice to open the Animal Medical Center of Monroe;
and
WHEREAS,
Dr. DeLong has found his true calling in life, and his devotion to all animals
is evident in the kindness, sensitivity, and skillful diagnoses he provides
daily; and
WHEREAS,
a doctor with an abundance of generosity, Dr. DeLong has a compassionate
understanding of the familial relationship and bond between pets and their
caretakers.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Dr. Donald Eugene DeLong for his many contributions to the betterment and care
of animals and recognize his remarkable talent as a veterinarian.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Donald Eugene DeLong.
