A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Arch Smith on being named director of Georgia 4-H; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Arch Smith has been named the eighth state 4-H director in Georgia 4-H's 107-year history; and

WHEREAS, Georgia 4-H is a program of UGA Cooperative Extension administered by the University of Georgia College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Smith began his career with the UGA Extension in 1985 as a county agent in Carroll County before joining the state 4-H staff as director of Rock Eagle 4-H Center in 1988; and

WHEREAS, in 1995, Mr. Smith became the associate state 4-H leader and executive director of the Georgia 4-H Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Smith has deep roots in the Georgia 4-H program, joining the program when he was in the fifth grade while growing up in Warren County on his family's cotton and cattle farm, and in college, Mr. Smith served for four summers as a camp counselor; and

WHEREAS, during his service as interim state director, Mr. Smith led hundreds of faculty and staff members through the 2010 budget process and was instrumental in preventing the elimination of the Georgia 4-H program; and

WHEREAS, he is united in love and marriage to Brenda Taylor Smith, and he has been blessed with two remarkable children, Kristen and Daniel; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mr. Arch Smith for his years of dedicated service to the Georgia 4-H program and congratulate him on being named the organization's state director.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Arch Smith.
