A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Ms. Barbara Payne on her outstanding public service; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Barbara Payne has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state as evidenced dramatically by her superlative service as executive director of the Fulton County Taxpayers Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Payne has been active in policy and socioeconomic justice work for over 15 years and first advocated for the interests of the public with the federation of state Public Interest Research Groups while a student at Portland State University; and

WHEREAS, she has set up organizations for such notables as Ralph Nader and has been a consultant to over a dozen campaigns, both issue and candidate, nationwide; and

WHEREAS, her advocacy for the taxpayers of Fulton County has led to many reforms benefiting thousands of property owners, and she has proven herself to be committed to fighting against government waste, mismanagement, and corruption; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Payne's significant organizational and leadership talents, her remarkable patience and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, she is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Payne has served with honor and distinction with the Fulton County Taxpayers Foundation and her vision and unyielding commitment have set the standard for public service; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Ms. Barbara Payne for her efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to Fulton County and the State of Georgia and extend to her their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Barbara Payne.
