RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Reverend Dr. Sam Davis; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Reverend Dr. Sam Davis was born on March 17, 1949, in Barnwell, South Carolina,
the beloved son of Reverend James and Wilhelmina Davis; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Davis earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Voorhees
College, a master's degree in clinical education and pastoral counseling from
Morehouse School of Religion, and a doctoral degree in ministry from Columbia
Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS,
in 1984, Dr. Davis became pastor of Beulah Grove Baptist Church in Augusta,
Georgia, where his vision and guidance have allowed the church to reach great
heights, increasing membership by 5,000, implementing over 85 ministries, and
employing 53 members of the community; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Davis has established an aggressive evangelism campaign that includes a
multimedia initiative of radio and television, a ministry presence on the
Internet, and a not for profit newspaper that seeks to share the Word of God in
print media; and
WHEREAS,
with a mission of Seek, Save, Shape, Support, and Serve, Beulah Grove Baptist
Church has opened the Jacob Wells Bookstore, seen the building of Faithview
Estates for first-time home buyers, and the creation of the Vision Builders
National Conference with the mission of educating, empowering, and equipping;
and
WHEREAS,
under his guidance, Beulah Grove Baptist Church has developed three nonprofit
organizations, the Beulah Grove Community Resource Center, Inc., 30901
Development Corporation, and Kingdom Kids Christian Academy; and
WHEREAS,
a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Dr. Davis is a notable author of
five books and the CEO of Joyful Sound Ministry; and
WHEREAS,
the unmatched spiritual assistance offered by Dr. Davis for the past 25 years
has been a source of strength, inspiration, and direction for persons in all
walks of life and from all economic strata, and he continues to serve as an
inspiration to countless Georgians and Americans each day with his acts of
kindness and compassion.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Reverend Dr. Sam Davis for his unparalleled record of community service and his
innumerable good works rendered on behalf of persons in need, congratulate him
for 25 years of service to Beulah Grove Baptist Church, the City of Augusta, and
Richmond County, and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued
health and happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend Dr. Sam Davis.
