RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Michael L. Thomas on the occasion of his retirement; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Michael L. Thomas has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for
the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment
to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as
evidenced dramatically by his superlative service with the Georgia Department of
Transportation in his current position as Director of Local Grants and Field
Services; and
WHEREAS,
a graduate of Telfair County High School, Mr. Thomas earned a bachelor's degree
in civil engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and began his
distinguished career with the Georgia Department of Transportation in 1983;
and
WHEREAS,
during his tenure with the department, Mr. Thomas has served in various roles,
including construction, maintenance, and operations, with his longest engagement
as district engineer for Eastern Middle Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Thomas's significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable
patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the
needs of the citizens of this state have earned him the respect and admiration
of his colleagues and associates; and
WHEREAS,
a second generation department employee, Mr. Thomas has been united in love and
marriage to his wife, Joy, for 27 wonderful years and he has been blessed with
three children; and
WHEREAS,
he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Thomas has served with honor and distinction with the Georgia Department of
Transportation and his vision and unyielding commitment will be sorely missed
upon the occasion of his retirement; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Mr. Michael L. Thomas for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated
public service to the State of Georgia; congratulate him upon the grand occasion
of his retirement; and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for
continued health and happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Michael L. Thomas.
