A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Living Water International; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Living Water International was established in 1990 after a group from Houston, Texas, observed the need for clean drinking water during a visit to Kenya; and

WHEREAS, 848 million people around the globe lack access to clean drinking water, and poor and underdeveloped countries suffer from easily preventable illnesses and deaths due to lack of clean water; and

WHEREAS, a nonprofit organization, Living Water International implements participatory, community based water solutions in developing countries; and

WHEREAS, Malcolm Morris was instrumental in the founding of Living Water International and has served in a number of capacities for the organization, including chairman of the board; and

WHEREAS, Living Water International trains, consults, and equips local people to implement solutions in their own communities; and

WHEREAS, training programs held by Living Water International include shallow well drilling, pump repair, and hygiene education; and

WHEREAS, since this compassionate organization's founding, it has completed over 9,000 water projects in 26 countries; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding work of this fine organization and its numerous contributions to people around the world be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Living Water International for its humanitarian and faithful service to communities in need around the world.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Living Water International.
