RESOLUTION
Commending
Georgia Virtual Academy and recognizing Tuesday, March 17, 2009, as Georgia
Families for Virtual Academy Day at the state capitol; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Virtual Academy is a state special on-line charter school with an
enrollment of an estimated 4,400 students from 163 different school districts in
Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
students of Georgia Virtual Academy follow a daily curriculum, complete home
work assignments, take tests, and participate in science projects;
and
WHEREAS,
Georgia Virtual Academy provides for greater parental control in their child's
education and is an attractive option for home-school families, families with
children facing special needs, or students with health concerns;
and
WHEREAS,
Georgia Virtual Academy provides families with a workable alternative to
traditional public schools by offering a high quality education which fosters
innovation, creativity, excellence, and pride; and
WHEREAS,
students who attend Georgia Virtual Academy are required to pass the same state
achievement tests as those attending public schools and are instructed by state
accredited teachers; and
WHEREAS,
Georgia Virtual Academy offers parents the option of personalized learning
opportunities for their children, customized to meet each child's needs and
tailored to their particular learning style and strengths; and
WHEREAS,
the outstanding education provided by Georgia Virtual Academy is worthy of
recognition.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Georgia Virtual Academy for offering the students of Georgia an educational
option that allows them to thrive and prosper and recognizes Tuesday, March 17,
2009, as Georgia Families for Virtual Academy Day at the state
capitol.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Georgia Virtual Academy
and Georgia Families for Virtual Academy.
