A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Lawrence Hutchins, Jr.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Lawrence Hutchins, Jr., has dedicated an amazing 42 years to molding young minds and challenging students through his work in the field of music education; and

WHEREAS, born in Savannah, Georgia, Mr. Hutchins was educated in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, graduating from A.E. Beach High School in 1959, and he went on to earn degrees from Savannah State College and Vandercook College of Music; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hutchins has been instrumental in the education of this nation's youth, teaching and directing bands for over four decades at Gordon High School in Dillon, South Carolina; Liberty County High School in McIntosh, Georgia; and Beach High School, Savannah State University, the United House of Prayer Marching Band, Port Wentworth Elementary School, and Garrison Elementary School in Savannah, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, an active member of community and music appreciation organizations, Mr. Hutchins belongs to the Music Educators National Conference, the Georgia Music Educators Association, the Frank Callen Boys and Girls Club Alumni and Friends Association, the Savannah Basketball and Coastal Football Officials Association, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; and

WHEREAS, a devoted man of faith, Mr. Hutchins has attended Bethel AME Church for 50 years, where he serves with the Sons of Allen, the Senior Choir, and the Trustee Board; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hutchins has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in the teaching profession and his deep personal commitment to music and the education of the students of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his contributions to the students in this state, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body heartily and gratefully commend Mr. Lawrence Hutchins, Jr., for his years of sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia and for the positive influence he has had upon the lives and futures of countless young people in this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Lawrence Hutchins, Jr.
