A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mr. Dan Vaden, Jr.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mr. Dan Vaden, Jr., on December 7, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Vaden was born on June 8, 1927, a beloved son of Dan Martin Vaden and Maxine Therin Vaden; and

WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Navy, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Vaden attended the University of Florida, where he was a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity; and

WHEREAS, he began his career selling used cars, and over 50 years, he built a regional automotive group called the Vaden Automotive Group that has eight dealerships and employs over 400 people in Southeast Georgia and South Carolina; and

WHEREAS, his business acumen has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades, including the 1992 Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award, the Dian Wahrman Torch Award for marketplace excellence in customer relations and business philosophy from the Coastal Empire Better Business Bureau, and induction into the Savannah Business Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, a community leader, Mr. Vaden was a founding member of Savannah's Rotary East Club and served on the boards of directors of the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, St. Joseph's Hospital, the United Way of the Coastal Empire, the Better Business Bureau, and the American Cancer Society; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Vaden was united in love and marriage for 59 wonderful years to Jane Adams Walton Vaden and was blessed with the support of his remarkable children, Linda Ann Vaden and William T. Daniel and Jane Walton Vaden and Peter H. Thacher; and

WHEREAS, he was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren, Elizabeth, William, Robert, Jack, Sarah, and Blake; and a great-grandchild, Ann Marie; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Vaden will long be remembered for his love of golf, family, and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Dan Vaden, Jr., and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Dan Vaden, Jr.
