RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Daniel Chaney; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
a proper quality education for the young people of this state is the single most
important objective of the General Assembly; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Daniel Chaney has shown by the example of his accomplishments that the
pursuit and attainment of success are within the reach of the students in this
state; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Chaney is the winner of the 2011 InVenture Prize at the Georgia Institute of
Technology, where he is a senior; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Tucker, Georgia, Mr. Chaney is a graduate of Lakeside High School
and is studying industrial design at Georgia Tech; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Chaney's winning invention, the Slide Capo, is a new tool for the guitar
that allows musicians a level of flexibility not available from traditional
tools that has characteristics of both a slide and a capo; and
WHEREAS,
this year's InVenture Prize is the third edition of the competition that aims at
engaging undergraduate students in innovation and entrepreneurship;
and
WHEREAS,
contestants for the InVenture Prize work individually or in teams to create an
invention that caters to a market need and present a business plan for their
creation; and
WHEREAS,
proposals are judged by faculty members and real entrepreneurs and venture
capitalists with winners receiving $15,000 and assistance in obtaining a patent
for their invention; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Chaney competed against 350 other participants for the InVenture Prize with
over 190 ideas submitted for the contest; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Chaney's amazing invention has brought honor to his community, school,
family, and state; and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia looks with great anticipation toward the future of this
bright and promising citizen.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Mr. Daniel Chaney for his amazing invention, congratulate him upon his InVenture
Prize, and extend to him best wishes on all his future endeavors.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Daniel Chaney.
