RESOLUTION
Commending
the General Federation of Women's Clubs and recognizing April 24, 2009, as
General Federation of Women's Clubs Day at the state capitol; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
organized in April 1890, the General Federation of Women's Clubs is an
international women's organization dedicated to community improvement by
enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service; and
WHEREAS,
the General Federation of Women's Clubs is made up of women who are true
volunteers in action, with members raising an average of $30 million annually on
behalf of more than 100,000 projects and volunteering more than five million
hours; and
WHEREAS,
the General Federation of Women's Clubs and the Georgia Federation of Women's
Clubs owns the Tallulah Falls School in North Georgia, known as "The Light in
the Mountain" and celebrating 100 years of excellence in 2009; and
WHEREAS,
the Stone Mountain Woman's Club has been a member of the General Federation of
Women's Clubs and the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs for over 79 years;
and
WHEREAS,
the General Federation of Women's Clubs, the Georgia Federation of Women's
Clubs, and the Stone Mountain Woman's Club serve the State of Georgia through
its work in art, conservation, education, home life, international affairs, and
public affairs; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the tireless efforts of these amazing
organizations are appropriately recognized by this body.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the dedication of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, the Georgia
Federation of Women's Clubs, and the Stone Mountain Woman's Club and its members
to uplifting their community through selfless service and recognize April 24,
2009, as General Federation of Women's Clubs Day at the state
capitol.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the General Federation of
Women's Clubs, the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs, and the Stone Mountain
Woman's Club.
