RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Zachary Eller; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Zachary Eller, of Milton, Georgia, has earned national recognition with a 2009
Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and
WHEREAS,
established in 1995 by Prudential Financial and the National Association of
Secondary School Principals, the Prudential Spirit of Community Award honors
young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary
commitment to service in their community; and
WHEREAS,
an eighth grader at Northwestern Middle School, Zachary's love and concern for
animals in need was evident at an early age, requesting that his friends and
family give him pet food in lieu of birthday presents at the age of six;
and
WHEREAS,
inspiring his younger brother with his kindness, Zachary and his brother have
collected and donated over 1,000 pounds of food for local animal shelters over
the years; and
WHEREAS,
Zachary has also has generously volunteered his free time at a pet rescue
organization and has raised nearly $8,000 for the homeless pets by baking and
selling dog biscuits at the shelter and through his website,
www.woofemdowndogbiscuits.com; and
WHEREAS,
the success of the State of Georgia, the strength of communities, and the
vitality of this nation depend heavily upon the service of young people and
their willingness to devote their time, energy, and talent to others;
and
WHEREAS,
Zachary Eller represents the true spirit of service, peer leadership, and
responsibility, and the State of Georgia looks with great anticipation to the
future of this bright and promising young
student.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Zachary Eller's incredible community service to this state and civic activism on behalf of homeless pets and extend congratulations for being recognized with a 2009 Prudential Spirit of Community Award.
