RESOLUTION
Honoring
the legacy and memory of Mr. Grady Young and recognizing the Grady Young
Foundation, Inc.; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Grady Young was born on September 21, 1917, in Hall County, Georgia, the
beloved son of the late Dave and Lula Young; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Young demonstrated his commitment to teaching the Gospel, witnessing Christ
through word and deed, and addressing the physical, psychological, intellectual,
and spiritual needs of others; and
WHEREAS,
he was baptized at an early age at Cross Plains Missionary Baptist Church,
attended the Cross Plains Baptist Church Community School, earned a degree in
Bible study from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and was ordained a
deacon in 1942; and
WHEREAS,
a lifelong resident of Gainesville, Mr. Young was a devout member of Cross
Plains Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the deacon
board, served as layman president emeritus of the Northwestern Baptist
Association of Georgia, and served as treasurer of the Congress of Christian
Education for 26 years; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Young retired from the Seaboard Coastline Railroad Services in 1977 and was
a skilled carpenter; and
WHEREAS,
the Grady Young Foundation, Inc., has been established in honor of this
community leader and servant and provides spiritual and financial support to the
communities of Gainesville-Hall County by enhancing the communities through
scholarship, training and research programs, collaborative work, leadership
training, and community service; and
WHEREAS,
for the past eight years, the Grady Young Foundation has granted scholarships to
over 80 graduating high school seniors, has recognized the work of over 200
adults and 150 students for their community service, and contributed financially
and spiritually to several organizations, groups, families, and outreach
ministries; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Young was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation
for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made
of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the life and memory of Mr. Grady Young and recognize the amazing legacy
of the Grady Young Foundation, Inc.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the family of Mr. Grady
Young and the Grady Young Foundation, Inc.
