A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Ge Zhang; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ge Zhang of Marietta, Georgia, has earned national recognition by being honored with the 2009 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and

WHEREAS, established in 1995 by Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Prudential Spirit of Community Award honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to service in their community; and

WHEREAS, a senior at George Walton Comprehensive High School, Ge Zhang initiated a school computer science club, a summer academic program for middle level students, and a global youth-to-youth educational initiative; and

WHEREAS, through dedication, hard work, and tireless efforts, Ge Zhang raised more than $12,000 for school extracurricular academics by organizing computer coding tournaments; and

WHEREAS, the success of the State of Georgia, the strength of communities, and the vitality of this nation depend heavily upon the service of young people and their willingness to devote their time, energy, and talent to others; and

WHEREAS, Ge Zhang represents the true spirit of service, peer leadership, and responsibility, and the State of Georgia looks with great anticipation to the future of this bright and promising young student.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Ge Zhang's incredible community service to this state and extend congratulations for being recognized with the 2009 Prudential Spirit of Community Award.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ge Zhang.
