A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Mr. Bob Rice; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Bob Rice has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced dramatically by his superlative service as chairman of the Morgan County Republican Party since 1997; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Rice came into office as chairman at a time when it was difficult to find Republican voters and nominees in the Morgan County area, and over the last two decades he has led the transformation and growth of the party in the county; and

WHEREAS, with his leadership and guidance, the Morgan County Republican Party elected its first legislator in 1998 with Bob Smith, its first sheriff in 2000 with Robert Markley, and helped provide a Republican majority vote for a state-wide candidate with the election of Governor Sonny Perdue in 2002; and

WHEREAS, his consistent leadership helped achieve a peak membership for the party of over 360 people, which constituted 2 percent of Morgan County's entire population, and was responsible for the emergence of Republican dominance in Morgan County years in advance of a similar change in other rural parts of this state; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Rice is united in love and marriage to his supportive wife, Brenda, who has been a true leader for the Republican Party in Morgan County, making phone calls, attending conventions, hosting events, soliciting help from others in the community, and organizing the women of Morgan County who have done a great deal of work on behalf of the party; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Rice has served with honor and distinction as chairman of the Morgan County Republican Party and his vision and unyielding commitment will be sorely missed; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mr. Bob Rice for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated service to the Republican Party of Morgan County.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Bob Rice.
