A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mr. Robert C. Stover; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the passing of one of its most distinguished citizens and honorable military heroes with the passing of Mr. Robert C. Stover on December 25, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stover was born on February 15, 1928, in Berlin, Alabama, to Bessie Smiley Stover and Mose Stover, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, this great Georgian was educated in the Dallas County Public School System and graduated from Berlin Normal High School in 1946; and

WHERAS, Mr. Stover served his country with honor and distinction for 23 years in the United States Army as a Sergeant First Class, serving two tours of duty in Korea, three tours in Germany, two tours in Vietnam, and one tour in Japan; and

WHEREAS, during Mr. Stover's military career he completed Ranger School at Ft. Benning, Georgia, Chemical School at Ft. McClellan, Alabama, and Airborne School at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, this devoted military officer received numerous awards and distinctions, including two Purple Heart Medals, five Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Stars, a Combat Infantry Badge, a Civil Action Honor Medal, an Expert Marksman Badge, and a Master PSB; and

WHEREAS, after he retired from his military career, Mr. Stover worked as a machine operator with W.C. Bradley-Charbroil Division, receiving many awards for his superior work during his 25 years with the company, including Employee of the Month; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stover was an active member of Greater Shady Grove Baptist Church, where he served with devotion on the Deacon Ministry, and a lifetime member of the NAACP, AMVETS, and DAV; and

WHEREAS, he was active in the Prince Hall Masonic family, holding many leadership positions throughout the years, as well as a member of the Men's Progressive Club, where he worked relentlessly to eradicate homelessness and racial inequality; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stover's survivors include his five loving children, Reverend D. Albert Turk, Clarence Bernard Stover, Reverend Daryl A. Stover, Robin Redmon, and Yolande Stover, four grandchildren, and several other devoted relatives and loyal friends; and

WHEREAS, all who were privileged to know this distinguished Georgian join his family in mourning his loss.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body hereby honors the life and memory of Mr. Robert C. Stover and expresses its appreciation of his many contributions to his community, state, and country.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Stover's family.
