A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mrs. Freida Jane Ferguson Ellis; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Freida Jane Ferguson Ellis was born in Gastonia, North Carolina, and lived in nine different places before she moved to Baton Rouge in the ninth grade; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Ellis earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and English from Louisiana State University, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa; and

WHEREAS, she met her husband, James William Ellis, Jr., on a blind date at Biloxi Beach in 1954, and the loving couple were married on April 28, 1956; and

WHEREAS, a natural and talented performer, Mrs. Ellis wrote and performed plays and musicals on the military base where she and her husband were stationed during his service to this nation with the United States Air Force; and

WHEREAS, she moved to Atlanta from Williams Air Force Base in Arizona in 1962 and joined the Georgia State Senate Secretary's Office in 1964; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Ellis diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of her state as evidenced with superlative service with the Secretary of Senate's Office; and

WHEREAS, she has served the Senate and its members in numerous capacities, including as a typist, index clerk, journal clerk, and bill clerk and under three Senate Secretaries, Hamilton McWhorter, Jr., Frank Eldridge, Jr., and Bob Ewing; and

WHEREAS, even after completing full-time employment with the Senate, Mrs. Ellis returned for numerous legislative sessions to assist in the business of the state and serve the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Ellis and her husband have been blessed with three remarkable children, Eric, Scott, and Kimberly, and she is the proud grandmother of six delightful grandchildren, Aaron Scott Rose, Travis James Ellis, Tyler Ellis, David Oliver, Matthew Oliver, and Emily Oliver; and

WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, Mrs. Ellis is an active member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Ellis served with honor and distinction with the Georgia Secretary of Senate's Office, and her vision and unyielding commitment set the standard for public service; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize Mrs. Freida Jane Ferguson Ellis for her decades of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia and extend to her their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Freida Jane Ferguson Ellis.
