RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Bishop Kevin Lydell Smith; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Bishop Kevin Lydell Smith has demonstrated his commitment to teaching the
Gospel, witnessing Christ through word and deed, and addressing the physical,
psychological, intellectual, and spiritual needs of others; and
WHEREAS,
Bishop Smith has spent over 20 years studying the Word of God and began his
pastorship in 2001; and
WHEREAS,
his ministry is uniquely known for love, power, and commitment to the poor, and
he serves as a friend and partner to the hungry, troubled, and homeless in the
inner city of Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
known affectionately as "the Rev" in the Vine City/English Avenue community,
Bishop Smith takes on the role of father, friend, advocate, and philanthropist
to many; and
WHEREAS,
in 2010, Bishop Smith established Lena's House, a transitional housing quad in
Vine City which provides a safe housing for women and children in need;
and
WHEREAS,
whether the task is preparing a sermon, visiting the sick, counseling the
troubled, baptizing a new believer, or acting as a theologian, educator,
administrator, or humanitarian, Bishop Smith serves as a shining example of
God's righteous path; and
WHEREAS,
the unmatched spiritual assistance offered by Bishop Smith is a source of
strength and direction for persons in all walks of life and from all economic
strata; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that this enduring example of God's message
of peace and love be recognized and congratulated for his innumerable good works
rendered on behalf of persons in
need.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize Bishop Kevin Lydell Smith on his devotion to the Lord and passion for helping the poor and less fortunate in Atlanta.
