A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Marietta Police Chief Dan Flynn; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Marietta Police Chief Dan Flynn is highly regarded by the citizens of his
community and state and by local government officials as a person of
unquestioned integrity and dedication to the sound principles of law
enforcement; and
WHEREAS,
Chief Flynn earned bachelor's and master's degrees in public administration and
post-graduate certifications from the University of Miami and George Washington
University; and
WHEREAS,
a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy and Senior
Management Institute for Police, Chief Flynn has authored several law
enforcement publications for the International Association of Chiefs of Police,
Police Executive Research Forum, and Community Policing Consortium;
and
WHEREAS,
Chief Flynn has enjoyed an extensive career in law enforcement, rising to the
rank of major with the Miami-Dade Police Department, where he served as a
district commander as well as commander of the Narcotics, Professional
Compliance, and Special Patrol Bureaus; and
WHEREAS,
he has served as chief of police for the City of Savannah Police Department and
chief of the 800 member Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department;
and
WHEREAS,
Chief Flynn was selected as the 2010-2011 Chief of the Year by the Georgia
Association of Chiefs of Police and was inducted into the prestigious
International Evidence-Based Policing Hall of Fame directly associated with the
esteemed George Mason University; and
WHEREAS,
Chief Flynn is united in love and marriage to Denise Nevers Flynn, also a law
enforcement professional now retired after serving as a special agent for the
Florida Department of Law enforcement; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the members of this body show their
gratitude for the unique and often unheralded contributions of Chief Flynn and
all local law enforcement officers on behalf of the citizens of this
state.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the care, courage, and selfless dedication exhibited by Marietta Police Chief
Dan Flynn in carrying out the difficult duties of his vocation and congratulate
him upon his recognition as 2010-2011 Chief of the Year.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Marietta Police Chief Dan
Flynn.
