uninterrupted production of the F-22 Raptor; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the current United States fighter aircraft fleets are aging and stretched to the
breaking point and must be replaced; and
WHEREAS,
the F-22 Raptor is the world's most capable fighter plane, providing United
States military forces command of the skies, an essential component of this
nation's military strength; and
WHEREAS,
the United States Air Force and more than 30 air campaign studies conducted over
the last 15 years have found that it is essential that current production of the
F-22 be drastically increased; and
WHEREAS,
the F-22 program contributes $12 billion to the nation's economy, directly
employing over 25,000 Americans, including 2,500 Georgians, and another 70,000
in indirect jobs for subcontractors and suppliers all across the country;
and
WHEREAS,
this country is facing the most trying economic and national security challenges
in recent history, and it is imperative that we maintain the existing,
high-paying, specialized jobs which are critical to the preservation of our
national defense industrial base; and
WHEREAS,
bipartisan letters signed by 238 members of Congress supporting continued
production of the F-22 have been forwarded to President Barack Obama while his

NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join
together to ask President Obama to continue the uninterrupted production of the

BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
