A RESOLUTION


Recognizing January 19, 2011, as Operation HOPE Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Operation HOPE is a nonprofit, public benefit organization, founded immediately following the civil unrest of April 29, 1992, in Los Angeles, and serves as America's leading provider of economic tools and services; and

WHEREAS, Operation HOPE has been delivering financial empowerment programming in the metro Atlanta area since 2005; and

WHEREAS, with Ambassador Andrew Young as its global spokesperson, Operation HOPE has educated over 30,000 students in Georgia with the assistance of 1,400 passionate and dedicated Operation HOPE Corps volunteers; and

WHEREAS, Operation HOPE ensures that Atlanta area students have access to its award-winning youth financial literacy empowerment curriculum, Banking On Our Future, through partnerships with 53 amazing corporate entities; and

WHEREAS, Operation HOPE is currently constructing the Operation HOPE Financial Literacy Empowerment Center at the Martin Luther King, Sr., Resource Facility in Ebenezer Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia and the members of the General Assembly appreciate the hard work and dedication that the volunteers of Operation HOPE have demonstrated in improving the lives of countless Georgians; and

WHEREAS, the incredible work of Operation HOPE and its 1,400 volunteers is most admirable and worthy of recognition by this body.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize January 19, 2011, as Operation HOPE Day at the state capitol in honor of the volunteers who work tirelessly to improve the lives of Georgia students through financial literacy empowerment.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Operation HOPE's CEO, John Hope Bryant.
