A RESOLUTION


Commending Kristina "Camille" Sims; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Kristina "Camille" Sims is a senior at North Atlanta High School where she maintains a 4.1 grade point average in the school's International Baccalaureate program, and, in addition to being the first African American crowned Miss GA's Outstanding Teen 2010, she has dedicated over 1,000 hours of community service and received both the Presidential Service Award and a Proclamation from the City of Atlanta for "Outstanding Community Service" and she has also been voted one of 2lst Century Leaders "Top 20 Georgia Leaders Under 20 Years of Age"; and

WHEREAS, Camille is very active in her school and community, and she is a: Fulton County Youth Commissioner, youth educator for Atlanta Community Food Bank, youth counselor for Dunwoody Nature Center, varsity cheerleading captain, and member of the National Honor Society and she is also a two-time nominee for the Georgia Governor's Honors Program in both Theater and Music; is Atlanta Public School System's District Wellness Ambassador and serves as a spokesperson for her platform "Fighting Hunger and Improving Wellness"; and

WHEREAS, she has been recognized by Delta Sigma Theta with one of the organization's highest and most prestigious awards; and

WHEREAS, she strives for excellence while helping others, and instead of having a Sweet 16 birthday party, she launched a personal initiative and raised 3,600 pounds of food for the hungry, and despite her copious activities, her favorite activity is passing out "H.O.P.E." boxes of food to homeless families on Saturday mornings; and

WHEREAS, Camille's collegiate aspirations are to pursue dual degrees in Public Health and Environmental Studies and start a nonprofit program called "Feed The World," and when asked why she stated, "I am an activist and I want to dedicate my life to helping eradicate hunger," and her favorite quote is "Be the change you wish to see in the world" by Mahatma Gandhi and it is her desire to exhibit these inspirational words daily.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Kristina "Camille" Sims for her many accomplishments and wish her all success in the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Kristina "Camille" Sims.
