By:
Senators Jackson of the 2nd and Sims of the 12th
ADOPTED
SENATE
A
RESOLUTION
Urging
the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia to establish and offer
a teacher education program at each of its universities offering four-year
degree programs; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
each year in Georgia the demand grows for qualified teachers as the population
expands creating a shortage of teachers in all areas of education;
and
WHEREAS,
while the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia has encouraged
all institutions with teacher education programs to implement aggressive
recruitment policies to increase the number and raise the caliber and diversity
of teacher candidates in order to balance supply and demand, the teacher
shortage in Georgia continues to grow; and
WHEREAS,
increasing the number of teacher education programs at universities across this
state would reduce the shortage of educators in these areas and significantly
increase the number of qualified and available teachers in Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
it is recommended that teacher education programs across the state be expanded
and established.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body urges the Board of
Regents of the University System of Georgia to establish and offer a teacher
education program at each of its universities offering four-year degree
programs.
