A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the State of Dade Heritage Festival; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Dade Heritage Festival is a celebration of the history of Dade County, Georgia, and, this year, the event recognizes the 65th anniversary of the 1945 return of Dade County to the Union; and

WHEREAS, from May 21, 2010, to May 22, 2010, events will be held honoring Dade County's rich tradition and history, including the re-enactment of a radio play that celebrates and recognizes the turbulent times that led to the Civil War and the history of Dade's return to the Union in 1945; and

WHEREAS, the festival focuses on the myth and truth of Dade County threatening to secede from Georgia and the recognition by President Truman of Dade County's return to the Union on July 4, 1945; and

WHEREAS, during the festival weekend, 4,000 commemorative newspapers will be printed and distributed and music from the period of the Civil War era will be played; and

WHEREAS, this amazing glimpse into the history of Georgia and Dade County has been organized by the City of Trenton Downtown Development Authority, the Dade County Chamber of Commerce, the local American Legion post, and the local camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans; and

WHEREAS, such celebrations of the history and tradition of Georgia are to be welcomed and encouraged by all Georgians.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body extend hearty wishes for great success for the State of Dade Heritage Festival.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the State of Dade Heritage Festival Committee.
