RESOLUTION
Welcoming
citizens and public officials from Augusta, Georgia, and observing February 10,
2009, as Augusta Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
public officials and citizens from Augusta, Georgia, annually come to the
General Assembly to meet with the area's legislative delegation, ensuring a
healthy democracy through an active interchange of ideas between citizens and
their elected representatives; and
WHEREAS,
the views of elected officials from the counties and cities of the state are
always important to members of the General Assembly, and the citizens and public
officials from Richmond, Columbia, and Burke counties frequently offer
invaluable advice and counsel to their legislative delegation during the annual
legislative visit; and
WHEREAS,
the officials and citizens from Augusta have outstanding leadership in the
Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce, and
the Burke County Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS,
the legislative delegation from Richmond, Columbia, and Burke counties annually
awaits the citizens and local officials' delegation with eager anticipation
because of its invaluable advice and counsel; and
WHEREAS,
the legislative delegation then looks forward to returning to the Georgia
Freight Depot for the annual Augusta Day reception, which will feature delicious
Sconyers barbeque.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body welcome
the citizens and public officials from Richmond, Columbia, and Burke counties,
and recognize February 10, 2009, as Augusta Day at the state
capitol.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to members of the Augusta
Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce, and the
Burke County Chamber of Commerce in attendance at the capitol in honor of
Augusta Day.
