RESOLUTION
Recognizing
September, 2010, as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
children are the world's most precious resource, providing hope for the future
and representing innocence, happiness, and joy; and
WHEREAS,
cancer is second leading cause of death for America's children and the most
prevalent fatal disease that America's children endure; and
WHEREAS,
on any given school day, approximately 50 children are diagnosed with cancer and
more than 12,500 children are diagnosed every year; and
WHEREAS,
one in 330 Americans will develop cancer before his or her 20th birthday and
each year more than 3,000 children will lose their lives to cancer;
and
WHEREAS,
since 2004, the pediatric oncology population has risen 347 percent and many
children are diagnosed with some form of cancer each month; and
WHEREAS,
since 2006, Jay's HOPE has provided support to over 450 children with cancer in
the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
this body recognizes the devastating effects of cancer on children and
encourages childhood cancer awareness and education.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
September, 2010, as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit and appropriate copy of this resolution to Jay's HOPE.
