RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Reverend Joseph Wheeler on the occasion of his 51st birthday; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Reverend Joseph Wheeler was born on March 29, 1959, in West Helena, Arkansas,
the beloved son of Glendora and Joseph Wheeler, Sr.; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Wheeler served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with
the United States Army as a military policeman and was assigned to guard nuclear
missiles with the 2nd and 1st Air Defense Artillery in Wackerheim, Germany;
and
WHEREAS,
while in Germany, Reverend Wheeler enhanced his military understanding and
broadened his knowledge on the law through criminal investigation correspondent
courses and underwent a profound Christian conversion, diligently studying the
Bible and conducting prayer; and
WHEREAS,
he earned a magna cum laude bachelor's degree in Biblical studies from Beulah
Heights Bible College and a master of divinity degree from the
Interdenominational Theological Center; and
WHEREAS,
a longtime Civil Rights activist, Reverend Wheeler has devoted his time,
talents, and energy to the Clayton County NAACP for many years, serving as vice
president and being elected to four consecutive two-year terms as president;
and
WHEREAS,
through his leadership and guidance with the Clayton County NAACP, the
organization was able to ensure the fair drawing of district lines to get more
African Americans elected to public office, and the number of African Americans
hired as teachers, principals, police officers, and firefighters greatly
increased; and
WHEREAS,
a talented musician, Reverend Wheeler has co-written songs for Cynthia Coleman
and God Seeds of Joy for their upcoming album,
Praise Coming
On; has released his own album,
All to
Jesus; and recently launched his own
recording label, Kintups Record, and publishing company, Pillowhill Music, to
help other gospel music artists pursue their gifts and to teach young people
about the music industry; and
WHEREAS,
he is united in love and marriage to his supportive wife Vanessa, and they have
been blessed with a remarkable daughter, Aundria, and three wonderful
grandchildren, Carleesiya, Carlos, and Adora; and
WHEREAS,
by the example Reverend Wheeler has made of his life, he makes this world a
better place in which to live, and it is only fitting and proper that he be
appropriately recognized during this very special and memorable time of his
life.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Reverend Joseph Wheeler on the occasion of his 51st birthday and wish him many
more years of happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend Joseph Wheeler.
